Is the key to a more beautiful peaceful planet without war 'To know and Love oneself'?

After many years of spiritual study I have come to conclusion that ultimately loving oneself and to know oneself is the key to better life for all of us. When we treat people poorly we are in effect treating people as ourselves, so what is inside is outside us. When we are as gentle with ourselves as though we were as gentle with a child that had grazed its knee with love and patience we also do that to others also, so when we love ourselves and own all aspects of ourselves we can treat people as we treat ourselves also. In effect what we see in others, what they say, how they react to us mirrors who we are also. When we can learn to love ourselves we also put love into the world with our consciousness which in turn creates a more beautiful world, it just takes enough to people to turn the tide. I suppose ultimately when Jesus said treat others as you would have them treat you was really about how when we love ourselves we can love others too. I use his lesson as a pointer to what I mean only as I am a non religious man.
