Can you go to school with ring worm?

I intern at an elementary school. I have been sick twice already. The first one required a 5 days hospital stay and then I got Shingles. I have missed too much school and I don't want to have to repeat the semester. I have just been exposed to ringworm. I didn't realize how contagious it was. I held the child played with the child and touched the ringworm unknowling quite a few times. Is there anything I can do to stop myself from getting it? and if I do get it will I have to stay home? as I've heard from a few people that people send children school who have it
